KARACHI (March 08 2006): Muhammad Noman Saigol, Adviser to CM Sindh on IT, was the chief guest at a seminar on "Prospects and Potential of BPO in Pakistan," organised by College of Management Science of PAF - Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology on March 1. Habib Bank Limited and National Bank of Pakistan cosponsored this seminar.
Saigol said that high performance companies were outsourcing their non-core competent activities to relatively more economical geographical locations like South Asia. The advisor said that this has generated a global business worth 200 billion dollars.
He said that Pakistan, despite starting late, has taken quantum leaps in the BPO business but more infrastructure support is required from the government. He stressed that this development phenomenon should not be an isolated affair and common people living in areas like Liaquatabad and Korangi should benefit from the massive growth of IT and the BPO industry.
He called upon the BPO firms to pursue training and development in areas such as Liaquatabad and Korangi. Other speakers included Abdullah Butt, president ACCO, who spoke about various problems faced by the growing call centre industry of Pakistan and called for government subsidies for the sustenance of growth.
Anwar Kazi of AltSource, Bernard Benedict of Kontact Services, Sulaiman Farooqui of C3 Communications, Raza Kamal, Tariq Jalees and Muhammad Waseem all of PAF-KIET were also among the speakers.
Various BPO companies like ALT Source Communications and C3 Communications had set-up stalls where students were interviewed for future employment. Courtesy www.brecorder.com End.
