TAIPEI : Quanta, the world's top contract laptop maker, missed forecasts with a flat quarterly profit on Wednesday as stiff competition hurt margins, but it forecast steady shipment growth in coming months. As seasonal demand lifts PC sales, the Taiwan firm expects current quarter laptop shipments to grow 10-20 percent from the second quarter, when it shipped 4.3 million units.
Its monthly shipments would reach 2 million, on average, in the fourth quarter, up about a fifth from the third quarter. Quanta's net profit totalled T$2.109 billion ($64 million) for the quarter ended June, due partly to non-operating losses from its display unit. Quanta Display Inc lost T$5.5 billion in the second quarter.
