Accused behind the killing of five soldiers arrested: DIG Balochistan

QUETTA, January 28 (Online): IG police Balochistan Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqub has said that police have traced out and arrested the accused involved in killing of six people including five soldiers and one citizen in Khizdar on March 1, 2004.
He said this in a press briefing held here Thursday in his office. He told that a private suzuki carrying five army men was intercepted near dry stream while they were heading towards city from cantonment in Khizdar. The attackers hit them with Klashnikove bursts and later lobbed five hand grenades.
He went on to say that on receipt of information the DPO Khizdar alongwith two police raiding parties chased the accused on kacha road in the rear of Serona road and engineering university campus. Police party was tipped off at a dera that two veiled people riding on a motor cycle had come up there.
Some people identified them when they removed their veil while drinking water. He informed that on the evening of same day, police recovered two Klashnikov and five hand grenades from the rear of engineering university. A laboratory test revealed that Kalashnikov were used in attack on army men. Police picked up some people from university hostel and other localities for investigation.
Later police was informed that a yellow cab was seen passing near the site from where the weapons were recovered. Police came to know that the cab was owned by Wadera Hassan who on inquiry told that his driver Muhammad Rafiq had taken away his cab.
Wadera Hassan on further investigation disclosed the name and addresses of Jumma Channal, Nabi Bakhsh Channal and other people. Later Rafiq driver was arrested. Nabi Bakhsh and Jumma Channal came up there alongwith some other persons.
On the day when killing spree occurred, armed men moved to the site of killing in the jeep of Nabi Bakhsha and two taxis. Later firing shots were heard and some motorcyclists who were standing there made good escape. Jumma Channal was arrested in the light of police inquiry. Later Nabi Bakhsh Channal was killed in exchange of firing with police.
He further told that Jumma Channal and Wadera Hassan were arrested and challan was presented in the court. One Jamil, police constable was killed and other police constable Tajammal Shah was seriously injured during the course of arrests.
DIG said that the arrested people are declining to specify the names of the real culprits for the sake of protection of life of their family members. Responding to a question he said that despite registration of case against President PNP Akhtar Mengal and his party workers, police have not arrested them due to lack of solid proofs.
