KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh senior vice president Zahra Shahid Hussain was gunned down on Saturday night, a private news channel reported.

According to initial reports, unidentified gunmen shot her outside her residence in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase IV.

Earlier, the police had said that she was ambushed by two bikers who were waiting for her around the corner. "The assailants opened fire on Zahra, 60, as soon as she reached the gate of her residence. Apparently, they were there to target her," a police official said.

However, minutes later, SSP Nasir Aftab, claimed that according to what investigators had learned from Zahra's daughter and driver, the witnesses, it was a street-crime-related murder.

"The PTI leader got killed resisting a robbery," said SSP Aftab. The attackers fled, leaving her seriously wounded. She was rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to her injuries on her way to the hospital, sources said. According to hospital sources, she was shot in the head twice.

According to a PTI spokesman, Zahra Shahid Hussain was the founder member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Chief Imran Khan Sunday strongly condemning the killing of PTI Sindh Vice President Zarah Shahid Hussain in Karachi said that he is "shocked" and "deeply saddened".

On his Twitter account, Imran Khan wrote "I am shocked & deeply saddened by the brutal killing of Zara Shahid Hussain, Zara apa to us, in Karachi tonite. A targetted act of terror!"

He held Altaf Hussain "directly responsible" for the murder, saying that the MQM chief had openly threatened the PTI leaders and workers.

"I hold Altaf Hussain directly responsible for the murder as he had openly threatened PTI workers and leaders through public broadcasts."

He also held British Government responsible in the murder of the PTI Sindh senior vice president, saying that he had already "warned" the British government about Altaf's "open threats" to kill PTI workers.

"I also hold the British Govt responsible as I had warned them abt Br citizen Altaf Hussain after his open threats to kill PTI workers", he said.

Moreover, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Zuhra Shahid's murder case could not be registered yet, sources reported Sunday morning.

Postmortem report said that two bullets fired from a close distance had hit the deceased.

Sources said she would be buried today. Police said that the postmortem of the body of PTI leader, who was gunned down yesterday in Defence Phase IV by unknown motorbike riders, has been completed this morning at Jinnah Hospital here.

Lady MLO Dr. Nasreen Qamar said that Zuhra Shahid, 60 received two bullets fired from 30-bore pistol from a close distance, while a bullet hitting the jaw went out of the head and another one hit at the back.

Police sources said that the two bullets out of four fired at Zuhra Shahid hit her at the gate of her house.

SSP, Nasir Aftab said that the murder case of the incident could not be registered as yet, while the relatives of the deceased said that after burial of the murdered Zuhra Shahid today FIR would be registered in consultations with the lawyers.
