Zakat distribution provincial matter, the Senate informed

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Wednesday informed that the distribution of Zakat is a provincial matter and 2208 Pakistanis Zairian visited India during the last two years and the selection of Zairian was held through computer balloting. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Ijaz-ul-Haq in a question of Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood said that 1210 Zairian visited India in 2005 and 998 in 2006 to attend Urs. Explaining the procedure, the Federal Minister said that applications forms are sought from interested applicants through newspapers before two months of the starting of the Urs and the applications later scrutinized, he added. He said that for the security clearance, the age of the applicant should not be more than 25 years and has not visited India during the last twelve months nor he be blacklisted. The form should be filled with complete details and information and attached with all necessary documents, he added. He said that mostly men are applying and women visit with their husbands and if women face any problem in this regard, it would be checked. The Federal Minister in a question informed the House that under the Clause 9 of Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980, the distribution of Zakat is provincial matter. He added that all concerned department are asked to provide related information and said that the information would be provided in the House soon. The Federal Minister said that the amount has been provided to different departments in millions from Zakat Fund and the details, after collecting would be presented in the House.
