ISLAMABAD: Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Khursheed Shah on Wednesday asked India to explain how its weapons were used in the terrorist attack at the Karachi airport.

He was talking to media after a joint meeting of three opposition parties, Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), which jointly demanded the government convene an all-parties conference in view of the fast evolving security situation in the country if it thought that the earlier policy needs to be revisited.

Shah also demanded the Foreign Ministry summon the Indian high commissioner in Pakistan and lodge a protest by showing him the Indian weapons used in the Karachi airport terrorist attack.

"How did Indian weapons come to Pakistan for use in the attack on Karachi airport? Has the Indian government no control over its agencies mandated to oversee such things?" Shah questioned.

About the current security situation of the country, the three opposition parties were of the opinion that an APC is necessary after the recent terrorist attacks, including the one at Karachi airport. Shah and Naveed Qamar of the PPP, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr Shireen Mazari and Sahibzada Tariqualh of the Jamaat-e-Islami also attended the meeting.

Shah said that the opposition parties had mandated the government to combat terrorism; but unfortunately the opportunity was lost. "If the government wants to revisit its earlier policy then the APC should be convened for it," Shah said, adding that the time has come that the government take the lead and counter these elements head-on.

About the constitution of the all-parties parliamentary committee for electoral reforms for which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wrote a letter to the National Assembly speaker, the opposition parties decided that they would respond to it when the speaker writes to them for the composition of the committee.

About the internal proceedings of the House, the opposition decided that they would cooperate with the government and would help it complete the quorum; but added that first it should take steps to ensure the presence of its members in the House.

End.
