ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has expressed the resolve to transform Pakistan into a truly modern welfare state as envisioned by the founding leader Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Addressing the nation after hoisting flag at the Independence Day's main ceremony at convention center here on Wednesday‚ he said we want to establish such a welfare state‚ which is the abode of peace and becomes an example for the entire world.
Our intention is good‚ resolve is high and we have set the right direction. The Prime Minister said he will take the nation into confidence in the next few days and present future roadmap for the country.
He said our goal is to strengthen the country's democratic and political institutions‚ stabilize the economy and ensure rule of law. Everybody will have to contribute for the welfare of the country while setting aside their vested interests.
Our success lies in the ideals of founding father Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said the country is faced with multiple challenges but we‚ with the cooperation of the people will lay the foundation of a better future‚ the dream of which was seen by our forefathers.
Referring to the sacrifices rendered by our elders for the creation of Pakistan‚ he said Quaid-e-Azam proved through his character that all the challenges and conspiracies can be thwarted by adhering to honesty and steadfastness.
He said the Independence Day also reminds of self accountability‚ without which we cannot realize the dream seen by our forefathers for the homeland.
He said the country is blessed with all the resources to make a fresh beginning with renewed commitment. He pointed out that the sixty percent of the country's total population is youth.
This is the strength which is not available to every country in the world. Pakistan has the capability to surprise the world as it did so when nuclear tests were conducted despite all the pressure.
He said the decision of the people in the recent general polls also reflected that we have the ability to take the right decisions.
Highlighting the importance of Pakistan in the comity of nations‚ the Prime Minister said the destiny of this region cannot be decided without taking on board Pakistan.
He said Pakistan is one of the most important powers of South Asia and the development of Gwadar port and its communication infrastructure will usher in a new era of progress and prosperity in the region. This‚ he said‚ will make Pakistan the economic and political hub.
He said though the shadows of terrorism are haunting us today but with commitment and resolve we will overcome this scourge.
He was confident that with the cooperation of Pakistan Army‚ security agencies and the nation‚ terrorism will be eliminated and Pakistan will be made hub of peace and security.
He said Pakistan has been an important component of the United Nations peace keeping missions and presence of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon at the Independence Day ceremony is acknowledgment of our services.
He said Pakistan has always stood by the charter of the United Nations and contributed to global peace. He said on the Independence Day we renew pledge to continue our role in promoting global peace and security.
The ceremony was attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon‚ envoys of different countries‚ federal ministers and parliamentarians.
End.
