ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday rejected the list of recipients of civil awards announced by the government with the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari on the Independence Day.

“The announcement of civil awards by the government on August 14 is not less than a mockery of the nation,” said Nisar Ali Khan, while commenting on decision of President Zardari.

He said the PML-N would raise the issue of civil awards at the next session of the National Assembly so that the process of distributing civil awards on personal liking and as political bribe should come to an end.

“We want that the prestigious national awards are conferred on basis of performance and national interests,” he maintained. He said: “Zardari is bent upon using powers above from all rules and regulations, and considering every national matter his personal commodity and wish”. “The attitude of the president reflects that he looks into every matter from the mirror of his personal and party’s interests instead of keeping in view the constitution and law,” he said.

Nisar said it seemed as a loot sale of civil awards had been organised to distribute awards among party workers, sycophants and staff workers. “Zardari has not only lowered the status of national awards, but he also refreshed the era of Raja Ranjeet Singh who also had a large number of sycophants around him,” he said. He said the deeds of Zardari had proved that the President House in the last three years had become an office of the ruling party.

End.
