Gilani denies leaving PPP

10 October, 2012

LAHORE: A spokesman of the former Prime Minister and Senior Vice Chairman of PPP, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, has strongly rejected a news report that Gilani was joining some other party.

The spokesman said that the former Prime Minister's commitment to the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and its ideology were unwavering and the news reports were baseless.

The spokesman said that Gilani joined the PPP in 1987 and his contributions for the restoration of democracy and rights of the downtrodden under the banner of the PPP were well known.

The spokesman quoted the former Prime Minister saying that it was due to the PPP that he had the honour of serving as the Prime Minister of Pakistan for more than four years during which historic legislation and amendments were passed by Parliament that would have a lasting impact on the political process in the country, and would uphold the cause of the constitution, rule of law and the federation.

End.
