Gilani approves founding of naval academy in Balochistan

22 May, 2012

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday approved the establishment of Junior Naval Academy Ormara (JNAO) in Balochistan's Makran Division as a special project to compliment the government's initiative under the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan to provide opportunity to the Baloch.

Fifty percent quota will be reserved for Baloch students, a spokesman of the PM's House said. The academy is envisaged to act as a feeder institution for the Pakistan Navy in particular, and the armed forces in general, by grooming the potential entrants who are considered mentally, morally and physically suitable for training.

The academy will be run by a board of governors and will function under command of the naval headquarters. Separately, the premier approved minutes for the promotion to the post of director (BS-19) in the National Book Foundation (NBF). As a result, Karachi Deputy Director (DD) Jahan Khan Jamro and Islamabad DD Aftab Ahmad Soomro have been promoted against two vacant director posts.

Meanwhile, the PM approved amendments in the Staff Car Rules 1980 in accordance with the observations of the Public Accounts Committee of parliament in its meeting on May 15.

End.
