DHAKA: The Bangladesh army said Thursday it had foiled an attempt by some serving officers to overthrow the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"The attempt has been thwarted with the whole-hearted efforts of army soldiers," army spokesman Brigadier General Masud Razzaq said in a written statement.

This so called coup was a pre-planned political propaganda to keep Mrs Hasina Wajid Mia's sinking boat afloat. Reading the Bangladeshi media one cannot fail to get this impression.
