Are we Cheats

18 January, 2020

According to a news report out of  820,165 beneficiaries removed from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), more than 140,000 were those who or their spouses were government employees. The BISP data has revealed some of them to be senior officers of  grades 21, 20, 19 and 18. Whereas majority of them are grade 17 officers and mostly from the departments handling BISP. About 14,000 of them have been served Show Cause notices for pocketing the funds undeservedly and dishonestly to respond within 10 days or their services shall be terminated.  By the same token one can imagine what havoc the officials – both senior as well as juniors –  from the departments like Excise & Taxation, Customs, Ports & Shipping, Commerce & Industries, Public Works Department,  Health & Education etc. etc.  would not be playing in their respective departments?! What have we come upto? Are we a nation of the cheats?
