Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was the 20th Chief Justice of Pakistan. On March 9, 2007 he was made dysfunctional by President General Musharraf. This sparked off the historical Lawyers’ movement as they started protesting against the decision. Later various other political parties also joined with them. The whole protest took the political turn after the suspension of Sharif brothers. In March 2009 Nawaz Sharif and the lawyers started a decisive movement to reinstate Chaudhry Iftikhar. On 15th March the whole scenario changed as long march led by Nawaz Sharif pressurized President Asif Zardari to reinstate all the deposed judges. On 16 March, 2009, all the judges were restored through an Executive order by the Prime Minster of Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gilani.
