Amid international appreciation and a strong resistance from Jewish settlers, Israeli forces are engaged in evacuating some 38 settlements in Gaza Strip ending 38 years of occupation in the impoverished territory. Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas has hailed the Gaza pullout as the fruit of Palestinians’ sacrifices. He, however, reiterates his refrain that Israel must make further pull backs around Jerusalem and as West Bank. The operation, the Israel has removed Jews from Palestinian land for the first time, has sharply divided the Jewish state with many settlers accusing their one-time champion Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of betrayal. Adding his voice to the chorus of criticism, a former Prime Minister and a member of Sharon’s cabinet, Benjamin Netanyahu has resigned from his office. He observes that the pullout will provide more ground to armed Palestinians to conduct "terrorist attacks" against Israel. On the other hand, the Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas reiterates that it will not disarm even after the Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip, and will continue its struggle until Israel leaves the all parts of the occupied territories.

1) Do you think the pullout is a significant move and a step towards liberation of Palestine?

2) Has Israel realized that it cannot subjugate the Palestinians by force or it is the result of an international pressure?

3) Does the pullout show US and Israel’s sincerity to resolve the Palestinian problem?

4) Can Palestinians and Jews live peacefully as two independent States if Israel pulls back from other settlements too?
