The incident occured near a police station in the restive town of Muqdadiyah in Diyala province, killing 16 people and injured dozens of others, a police officer said. The attack happened in the town of Muqdadiya
The woman, strapped with an explosive belt, approached a group of people outside a kiosk opposite the police station who were seeking recruitment forms to sign up for the police force, said Iraqi official.
Civilians and police recruits were among the victims, he added. Seven people were wounded.
Meanwhile, the US military confirmed that 3 more troopers were killed in roadside bomb blast in southeast Baghdad while they were on a routine patrol. Another soldier was wounded in the explosions, which took place Monday, the U.S. military said in a statement.
The military announced that a fourth soldier died while conducting combat operations on Monday in the restive province of Al-Anbar, west of Baghdad.
The latest fatalities brought to 3,280 the number of American military losses since the March 2003 invasion, according to a count based on Pentagon figures.
On the otherhand, an American military helicopter was attacked in Baghdad on Tuesday, however it (helicopter) returned to the base safely, a spokesman of the military said.
