Withdrawal of US military equipment begins from Afghanistan

11 February, 2013

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's custom officials on Sunday said that withdrawal of US military equipment from Afghanistan has begun as the first convoy of around 25 containers left for Karachi via Torkham border.

According to media reports, at least 25 containers, loaded with US military equipment from a key Nato base in Afghanistan, reached Torkham border in strict security, where custom clearance company get cleared documents of the containers.

The convoy left for Karachi after custom clearance.

The report said that the second fleet of containers of military equipment will also reach Torkham from Bagram very soon.

In January, US President Barack Obama announced that he was accelerating the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan, with the 66,000 American troops moving this spring into a largely training and advisory role and Afghan troops taking the lead throughout the country in fighting the Taliban-led insurgency.
