06 April, 2012
ISLAMABAD: Chief of Jamiat Ulema Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman has blown hot and cold against the US for announcement of bounty on Hafiz Saeed accusing the US of meddling into the internal affairs of Pakistan.
"The US is deliberately trying to spread anarchy in the region," he added. He said meddling into the internal affairs of Pakistan by US would only further deteriorate the situation."First the US used Mullah Umar as the scapegoat then Osama Bin Laden was produced in Pakistan to achieve its target of creating anarchy in Pakistan," he added.
He said the US should stop making decisions based on wrong assumptions instead find a proof against Hafiz Saeed."We don't have any enmity with the US, if she has any reservations about us then it should better talk to our government instead of creating chaos," he added.
Responding to a query he said the decision of closing Nato supply lines was a good omen and the entire nation stood with the government. "But if the government has changed its mind we won't stand with her."He said that it was for the parliament to decide the fate of Nato supply lines.
"We have forwarded our recommendations to the parliament and the government should not use name of the parliament for decisions that are solely of its own," he added.Talking about the situation in Karachi he said the government should for now take the situation seriously and equip the police. "Calling in the army to control Karachi will only be a temporary solution," he observed.
