New York: Pakistan's Permanent Representative at UN, Dr Maleeha Lodhi, believed the UN Secretary General's statement on the Kashmir issue to be a diplomatic success of Pakistan.
She said this in her interview to media sources, also urging India to initiate the negotiation process on this long-standing issue in accordance with the UN resolution. Ambassador Lodhi believed that the consent of the UN Human Rights Commission to send a fact-finding mission to Indian occupied Kashmir would exert pressure on India.
Pakistan was highlighting the Kashmir issue at all forums to seek international attention and the letter of the UN Secretary General to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the issue was an evidence of the government's efforts, she added. Dr Lodhi also noted that additional concerted efforts were underway on both bilateral and international levels since Pakistani envoys stationed at capitals of various countries were trying to highlight Indian atrocities and the miseries of the innocent Kashmiris. The United Nations was said to be obligated to persuade the Indian government for a peaceful settlement of the long-standing Kashmir dispute. The envoy asserted that India s arrogance was deteriorating the situation in the region, which could also be a threat to the regional and international peace and security. She emphasised that India was not serious in resolving Kashmir issue and, hence, United Nations should persuade the Modi government for a peaceful settlement of this long-standing dispute. "India is non-serious in finding a solution to the Kashmir dispute. India's arrogance is deteriorating the situation in the region that can be a threat to regional and international peace and security," she added.
