UK gears up efforts to end Pakistan`s suspension from the Commonwealth

LONDON: Britain has said that it would work towards calling early meeting of Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group to end Pakistan`s suspension from the councils of Commonwealth.
British Foreign Minister David Miliband stated this in a telephonic conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Miliband expressed confidence that Pakistan, as an important regional country would continue to play leading role in the region.
Congratulating him on assuming office of Foreign Minister, Miliband said after restoration of democracy in Pakistan, his country will now work towards calling early meeting of Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group to end Pakistan`s suspension from the councils of Commonwealth.
Mahmood Qureshi said both countries have multifaceted, cordial relations and are partners in the war against terrorism. He said British assistance in the fields of investment, economic cooperation and bilateral trade is vital for Pakistan.
