KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan addressed thousands of his party's supporters in the port city in a pledge to take his anti-prime minister campaign to the city.
He said, "The oppressors ruling the country in turns as monarchs are united, as they have created divisions, hatred among the people to make political gains but I am here to unite the masses as one nation. …We have come to Karachi to unite all communities and to break the shackles of cruelty that has divided the people. I am here to make Sindhis, Mohajirs, Baloch, Pakhtuns, and Punjabis one nation." Addressing PTI supporters opposite the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Imran Khan said that his movement would continue until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif steps down.
"We have to make a nation which came into existence due to struggle of Quaid-e-Azam." He pledged to eliminate the politics of extortion and killings. "I am thankful to Allah that the nation has awakened. We will never bow before the statue of cruelty," Imran said. He asked the participants of the rally to promise him never to tolerate oppression. "We will build a nation as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam." The PTI chairman said that "it is our fundamental right that we elect our leaders through votes. It is the first right of an independent nation".
He said a country run by a corrupt government has no future and promised to "bring rule of law in Pakistan". He claimed that all elections, except that of 1970, were heavily rigged. "You have been deprived of your fundamental right to vote," he stressed. "God willing, we will make a naya Pakistan. We will make a Pakistan for which we all dreamt." Imran said that time would come when people would make queues outside Pakistani embassies to obtain visa for Pakistan. He narrated that his party would empower youth to turn Pakistan into a thriving country. Outlining his priorities, Imran said that the PTI would focus on education, law and order and justice.
"The police department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is apolitical. We will expel Gullu Butts from Punjab Police." Imran said, adding that if the PTI came into power it would launch accountability of the current rulers.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain said on Sunday that PTI chief Imran Khan is always welcome in Karachi.
"I would like Imran Khan to accept my sincere felicitations beforehand. He is always welcome in Karachi," Altaf said while addressing his party workers late Saturday. He said that the MQM is the only political party which had challenged the status quo and brought youths to the national parliaments.
He said that the MQM had rejected hierarchal and corrupt politics and obsolete feudal system and brought new blood to the national politics. Altaf said that for this reason MQM had to put up with propaganda.
End.
