KARACHI: Militants belonging to a banned terrorist outfit targeted an armed forces installation but remained unsuccessful. Their target this time was the Pakistan Navy (PN) Dockyard.

Commandos of the Pakistan Navy retaliated and killed two members of the banned outfit and arrested four of their accomplices. A navy official was martyred in the attack.

The Pakistan Navy spokesman said on Monday evening that a group of terrorists had tried to penetrate the Pakistan Navy Dockyard in Karachi on Saturday.

Pakistan Navy's security personnel responded valiantly and in the ensuing encounter killed two terrorists while apprehending four terrorists alive.

During their engagement with the terrorists, one petty officer embraced Shahadat while an officer and six sailors sustained injuries. All the injured are out of danger and being treated in hospital.

He added that subsequent to interrogation of the apprehended terrorists, immediate raids were conducted by the intelligence agencies, which led to the arrest of their other collaborators and accomplices from different parts of the country.

During these raids, large quantity of arms and ammunition was also recovered. No material loss has taken place, said the spokesperson, adding the area was cleared for normal activities the same day.

The chief of the naval staff has appreciated the alertness of all the personnel involved in the operation. He also visited the injured personnel and acknowledged their bravery.

In addition to a formal inquiry, investigations by intelligence and other law enforcement agencies are in progress. However, the PN officials had refused to name the group involved in the attack.

It may be noted here that in the past also, PN officials and vehicles were targeted in Karachi. Mostly vehicles carrying officials to the Dockyard were targeted with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Defence and also at Sharea Faisal.

But the Saturday's attack is a different one as terrorists had attempted to storm into the PN Dockyard but due to timely action by the PN commandos, the attack was foiled.

End.
