Soomro urges Commonwealth to delay suspension decision
22 November, 2007
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan urged the Commonwealth to delay a decision on suspending it from the organisation over its state of emergency and to send a delegation to Islamabad, the foreign ministry said Wednesday. Foreign ministry Spokesman Mohammed Sadiq said this during a weekly press briefing here. Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro warned British counterpart Gordon Brown in a telephone call that a hasty decision would be "unfortunate." Instead the Commonwealth "should have a short postponement of the decision and immediately send a delegation to Pakistan to look at the situation in the country," foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Sadiq told reporters. End.
