ISLAMABAD: Third batch of six F-16 C/D Block 52 fighter aircraft arrived at the PAF Shahbaz Base in Jacobabad on Saturday.

Vice Admiral LeFever, representative of the US chief office of defence, handed over the aircraft on behalf of his government to Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, said a press release issued here.

The F-16 C/D Block 52 is a high-tech fighter aircraft equipped with state-of-the-art avionics suite and latest weapons having the night precision attack capability. These aircraft are part of the PAF plan to modernise and enhance its air defence capabilities. A number of the PAF and the US officials attended the ceremony.

Pakistan signed a contract with the US government in 2005-06 for the acquisition of 18 F-16 C/D Block 52 aircraft. Under this arrangement, the PAF would receive these state-of-the-art aircraft in staggered batches. The delivery of the remaining aircraft would be completed by next month.

End.
