PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday declared as illegal sit-ins being staged by some political parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stop trucks and containers from entering Afghanistan.

A two-member PHC bench comprising Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Malik Manzoor Hussain made the declaration while hearing the petition of a trader, Haji Lal Khan, who had challenged the blockade of supply lines for NATO forces in Afghanistan by workers of some political parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The court ruled that the government should safeguard the right of freedom of movement along with other human rights. Shah Nawaz, counsel for the petitioner, had argued that blocking of NATO supply lines by workers of some political parties were adversely affecting the businessmen and his client, who exported various goods and items to Afghanistan under the Afghan Transit Trade (ATT).

End.
