ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League's President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Jamshed Dasti and Zain Ellahi announced on Tuesday they would form an independent opposition group in the National Assembly.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed is the sole member of his party in the Lower House of parliament. Jamshed Dasti was elected MNA as an independent from Muzzafargarh, while Zain Ellahi was elected from Attock District and is a relative of Chaudhry brothers of PML-Q.

Talking to media outside the Parliament House, Sheikh Rashid said that four more members would be joining the 'Haqeeqi Parlemani Group' soon. He asserted that presently no party in parliament was playing the role of genuine opposition.

The veteran politician said that such a person was being made the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) who was not even its member. It is worth noting that Sheikh Rashid lobbied to become opposition leader in the National Assembly by trying to secure the support of PTI and MQM, but could not succeed.

End.
