LAHORE: Former Punjab chief minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday said Sharif brother were ruling the country like Mughal emperors and that Shahbaz Sharif was doing what Narendra Modi did with Muslims in Indian Gujarat.

Calling Shahbaz Sharif Pakistan's 'Narendra Modi', Elahi alleged that the police had opened fire on the orders of Sharif brothers. He said the Punjab government was initiating crackdown against those political forces that had extended their support to the armed forces. He demanded Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif resign forthwith.

Flanked by party leaders Basharat Raja and Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Elahi visited the residence of Dr Tahirul Qadri in Model Town on Tuesday. He said Punjab government was responsible for police torture against PAT workers. He said the police fired bullets at Dr Qadri's house, and added that bullet marks could also be seen on windows of nearby buildings.

Elahi said that history was witness to the fact that any political movement nurtured with blood of innocent civilians brought the incumbent regime to an end. He said the women killed in the incident were staging peaceful protest against Punjab government. "What wrong they had committed? Is peaceful protest a crime?" he asked.

Elahi said the rulers were playing with the lives of innocent people. "There is no need for any judicial commission. Everyone knows who ordered the police to open fire." The former chief minister urged the police to play their assigned role and work for building a peaceful, prosperous society.

End.
