LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the authorities to ensure the procurement of sugarcane by sugar mills from Punjab growers at fixed rates.
Issuing strict instructions to the divisional Commissioners and DCOs of the province, the chief minister said that the process of purchase of sugarcane by sugar mills from farmers should not be stopped at any cost. He also ordered indiscriminate action against those sugar mills which were not purchasing sugarcane from farmers at fixed rates.
“Those violating the fixed rates deserve no leniency and violation will not be tolerated at any cost,” he warned. Shahbaz Sharif said that the fixed rates of sugarcane would not be allowed to come down, promising that his government would take all necessary steps in this regard.
He further directed the Commissioners and DCOs to submit their reports regarding procurement of sugarcane from farmers at fixed rates on daily basis. Separately, the chief minister met with National Party of Balochistan senior leader Gehram Baloch.
Shahbaz Sharif said the sit-ins had caused huge loss to the country, adding that the PTI’s call of closing cities was not in favour of the state. “National solidarity and unity is much needed today. Pakistan belongs to all of us, as such, our collective responsibility demands to steer it out of crisis,” he stressed.
