LAHORE: Seven low-intensity explosions — six in Allama Iqbal Town police precincts and one in the Samanabad area of Lahore — created panic among the people on Friday night, besides keeping the policemen on their toes for over eight hours.
Five persons were injured in these explosions, according to security agencies. The first explosive device detonated in front of Jamia Masjid Qadaria in Kashmir Block. Three persons received injuries in the incident. Eye-witnesses said the device was buried in the ground.
The second explosion took place almost 150 yards away from the first blast site in the same block. The bomb was planted in a car, a Suzuki Mehran, parked in front of the house of a military official, Inamul Haq, a resident of 156 Kashmir Block.
The third explosion took place in a pickup near the Edhi Centre in Huma Block of Iqbal Town. The fourth device exploded in front of the house of a DSP, Khalid Javed Chaudhry. The explosion damaged the main gate and smashed windowpanes of the house. While the fifth explosion took place near a petrol pump in Karim Block, the sixth occurred near the Bismillah Chowk in Iqbal Town.
Meanwhile, the police recovered a bomb from a culvert and defused it. The bomb was placed in a car. Some locals claimed to have seen a few car riders, hurling hand-grenades in the area. A suspect was captured from one of the blast sites and shifted to an undisclosed place for questioning.
The seventh explosion took place in Samanabad area. The bomb placed in front of the house of DSP Chaudhry Riaz Ahmad exploded and broke windowpanes of several houses. However, no casualty was reported. The Lahore Police continued a massive search operation Friday night to arrest the terrorists, according to police sources.
