LAHORE: Shahbaz Taseer, son of slain ex-governor Punjab Salman Taseer has been abducted from Lahore's Gulburg area Friday, our sources reported.
According to the sources, he was traveling with his friend when four armed men abducted them on gunpoint and later released Shahbaz's friend.
Shahbaz's friend later informed the police about the kidnap. Police has confirmed the news.
According to CCPO Lahore, Malik Ahmed Raza said Shahbaz Taseer was provided a security escort comprising of the Rangers and police, but he was not using them at the time of his kidnapping, our sources reported.
He added that two of his kidnappers were traveling on a motorcycle and the remaining others were in a Land Cruiser Prado.
Speaking to the media at the scene of the kidnapping, the Lahore Police chief said the kidnappers threw their Kalashnikov near a roundabout and passed through the Cavalry ground towards the Defence area.
Meanwhile, Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah said all entry and exit points of the city have been sealed following the kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer, our sources reported Friday.
The provincial law minister, while speaking to our sources, added that all security agencies are investigating the kidnapping and a joint investigation team has been formed.
Rana Sanaullah said that following the murder of former governor Punjab, Salman Taseer, his family along with Shahbaz had been provide with a police escort for their protection. However, Shahbaz would not keep his police escort with him at all times.
According to Rana Sanaullah, the police escort provided to Shahbaz was at his residence at the time of his kidnapping and not traveling with him.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday telephoned the widow of former governor Punjab Salman Taseer that all out efforts would be made to recover his abducted son.
The president assured Amina Taseer that law enforcement agencies had been directed to take all measures for the recovery of Shahbaz Taseer, who was kidnapped by unknown persons in Lahore today.
