SC takes suo motu notice of lifting of ban by Punjab govt on kite flying

ISLAMABAD: Supreme court has taken suo motu notice on lifting of ban by government of Punjab on kite flying on its own and sought a report from the provincial government in this connection till January, 22.
The Supreme Court sources told Online that the acting chief justice Rana Bhagwan Das took suo motu notice of the lifting of ban on kite flying by Punjab government on the occasion of Basant.
The acting chief justice while issuing notice to advocate general of Punjab has directed him to appear before the court on January 22 with detailed report to explain the reason for lifting ban despite imposition of ban by the apex court on kite flying all over the country.
The SC sources told a larger bench will be set up to hear the case on January, 22. The Chief Justice of Pakistan is likely to preside over the bench which will hear the case. It may be recalled that the SC had imposed ban on kite flying across the country on October 25, 2005.
This decision was rendered by the SC while taking suo motu notice on the report of death of son of a citizen Syed Riaz Ahmad Zaidi from Rahim Yar Khan as his neck was slit with the kite string.
During this period the court had accorded permission for kite flying for one month on the request of government of Punjab.
Meanwhile, President Jamiat Ittehadul Ulema and Member National Assembly Maulana Abdul Malik has condemned the Punjab government decision to allow Basant despite the apex court clear cut order of its banning.
Delivering Jumma sermon at Jamia Mansoorah on Friday Maulana Abdul Malik said that the permission of Basant speaks of the rulers so called care and commitment to protect the lives of poor people.
Maulana Abdul Malik strongly condemned the passage of amendments in Hudoud laws saying it will open new avenues of sex-rated crimes in the country.
He said the judicial murder of Saddam Hussain was not the outcome of his reported crimes against his own people rather he was hanged for declining to bow before the US president and accepting his dictates.
The JI leader called upon the masses to forge unity in their ranks and rally around the religious parties as they can only challenge the un-Islamic and unconstitutional rule of General Pervez Musharraf.
