SC rejected Nawaz Sharif plea of extension in his bail

The Supreme Court rejected former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s plea seeking an extension in his six-week bail in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case on Friday. The court also declined a plea seeking permission for Sharif’s treatment in the United Kingdom.
The court claimed that Nawaz was given six weeks for medical treatment, but it is as if he had spent the entire time in tests alone.
Nawaz Sharif’s councel, Khawaja Haris Ahmed, said that, according to the written order of the court, his client cannot apply for bail before surrendering himself to the authorities.
He further reminded that this aspect of the written order had some contradictions with the verbal orders issued in the case. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah said that anything said by judges before signing their verdict is called an observation and not a ruling.
The counsel then asked the court to extend his client’s bail for eight more weeks. He argued that the health condition of his client was deteriorating. He said that the medical reports of Nawaz suggested an angiography.
To this, the chief justice responded that an angiography needs an hour, whereas the court had granted six weeks. The counsel further argued that the court’s decision had refrained Nawaz from going abroad for medical treatment. The court further turned down the objections and denied the plea through a short order.
