SC orders action against GB IGP in Hajj corruption case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the federal government to suspend Gilgit-Baltistan Police Inspector General Hussain Asghar for not reporting back to the FIA Headquarters, and submit a report today (Thursday).
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing a suo motu case of corruption during Hajj in 2010.
During the proceedings, the CJP remarked that Asghar's salary should be blocked if he doesn't follow court orders. He questioned why Asghar didn't appear before the court, adding that he doesn't enjoy a post superior to the prime minister.
Attorney General Irfan Qadir, during the last hearing, informed the court that the federal government had issued a notification regarding cancellation of Hussain's transfer orders as Gilgit-Baltistan IG and he was directed to report back to FIA Headquarters immediately. Deputy AG Dil Muhammad Alizai, appearing before the court, said Asghar did not come back despite being summoned several times.
After hearing the AG's statements and on Asghar's absence despite court orders, the bench directed to suspend Asghar and present a report, adding that legal action will be taken against him.
The CJP, directing the DAG to submit the notification and inform of steps taken against Asghar for not complying with the order, adjourned the case until June 28 (today).
