ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department Islamabad has informed that there is likely a chance that Ramzan ul Mubarak will commence in Pakistan from September 25.

According to Met Office spokesman there are no chances of sighting of the new moon of Ramzan ul Mubarak 1427 Hijri in the evening of 23rd September 2006. subject to the confirmation by the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. While elaborating the technical aspects, he informed the following threshold values of astronomical parameters are essential for the possibility of sighting the new moon of Ramzan ul Mubarak.

Age f the new moon should be more than 26 hours at the time of twilight for sighting the new moon of Ramzan ul Mubarak., where as this time it is off course less than 26 hours in most parts of the country.

Minimum duration of the new moon after sun set should be more than 41 minutes whereas at this occasion, it is also less than 34 minutes all over the country.

As such conditions for sighting the new moon of Ramzan ul Mubarak on September 23rd 2006 are not completely consonant with all parameters, therefore Inshallah 1st day of fasting would start from 25th September 2006 on Monday.

It would also be appropriate to highlight that this piece of information issued by the Meteorological Department aims to facilitate the moon sighting Committee with Scientific and Technical data in order to achieve reliable and accurate results, and further to intimate people of Pakistani community living in and abroad the country for planning there programs accordingly well in advance especially for the holly month.
