Rally demands safe recovery of missing persons in Balochistan

11 December, 2011

QUETTA: The Voice For Baloch Missing Persons (VFBMP) and Baloch Human Rights Organisation staged a protest demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club on Saturday to commemorate the International Human Rights Day that was observed to express solidarity with Balochistan.

The VFBMP, an organisation striving for safe recovery of Baloch missing persons, took out a rally from hunger strike camp set up outside the press club. A score of children and women participated in the rally. They were holding placard and banners inscribed with slogans in support of their demands. They were also carrying portrait of their loved one who have been missing for years. They marched through different parts of the city and culminated the rally at the Quetta Press Club.

They raised slogans against the security agencies and security forces accusing them of kidnapping and killing Baloch political opponents. They also said that the judiciary and government had failed to ensure safe recovery of the missing persons.

Addressing the protesters, VFBMP Chairman Nasurllah Baloch alleged that secret agencies were involved in human rights violations. "The Baloch people are being kidnapped allegedly by security forces and personnel of secret agencies. The situation has going from bad to worse with the recovery of bullet-riddled bodies of the missing people. Even dictator was not so much inhumane," he said, adding that 247 Baloch missing persons have so far been found dead and identities of 70 people are yet to be ascertained. He said his organisation has complete data of 1,300 missing people from Balochistan.

"Personnel of security forces are still carrying raids and operation in different parts of Balochistan," he alleged. "The provincial government has no role to play since it cannot investigate a single murder. The real power is in with military," he said.
