ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday expressed confidence that by following and promoting Quaid-i-Azam's vision and principles of "Faith, Unity and Discipline", the country can face various challenges, including terrorism and extremism.

The president expressed these views while addressing a ceremony at the Presidency to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The president paid rich tributes to the great visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam, who united the discordant nation and secured for them a homeland where they could fashion their lives according to their customs and traditions.

"His thought and vision is as relevant to us as it was some six decades ago. Indeed, the need for following his path and to adhere to the principles of Unity, Faith & Discipline was never as great as it is today," he added. President Mamnoon said the commemoration of birth anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was an occasion to rejoice and to reaffirm the commitment to those ideals of democracy, egalitarianism, constitutionalism and rule of law that were upheld by the great leader throughout his life. He said the day is also an occasion to "ponder and to reflect as to how far we as a nation have been successful in achieving those ideals that motivated our Father of the Nation to struggle for a separate homeland for the Muslims".

The president said even after the passage 66 years of Pakistan's creation, the country was facing various socio-economic and other challenges, adding that the people had to render great sacrifices to promote and strengthen democracy.

"However, the challenges that we confront today call for unwavering commitment and firmly upholding the principles of Faith, Unity and Discipline," he added. "Our economy not only faced the brunt of wars but also of the natural calamities. Owing to our geographical location, we have been affected by the international situation directly or indirectly," he added.

"Even today, we are confronted with the challenges of terrorism and extremism," he said. He, however, noted with satisfaction that the present democratic government was engaged in sincere efforts to achieve socio-economic development, creation of job opportunities, ensure access of our products to international market, and the betterment of energy, security and the law and order situation.

The president said he was very encouraged by the fact that our children had the understanding and realisation of the life and ideals of the founder of nation.

"I am confident that if the thoughts and ideals of the Quaid are truly promoted and imbibed among our future leaders (youth), we will be able to turn the country in accordance with the true vision of the founder of nation," Mamnoon added. He also appreciated all those parents and teachers who were playing their due role in transferring the true vision and ideals of Quaid-e-Azam to the younger generation.

The president said, "Today, as we pay our tributes to Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, let us reaffirm our commitment to the vision of our great leader and to re-dedicate ourselves to achieve those ideals that were espoused by our forefathers."

End.
