LAHORE: Three young men committed suicide in different cities of Punjab - Lahore, Rajana and Ghakhar Mandi - due to poverty on Thursday, police and relatives said. According to police, 28-year-old Nadeem hanged himself to death in Sidiq Colony, Ravi Road area of Lahore, after he failed to pay off his Rs800,000 loans.

In the second incident, 22-year-old Ismail ended his life by consuming poisonous tablets due to poverty in Chak No 336/GB of Rajana tehsil. He was married and a jobless person. Earlier, he attempted suicide some period back, but his life was saved due to provision of timely first aid.

In the third incident in Ghakhar Mandi, 25-year-old Muhammad Riaz took poisonous substance and died after he failed to make ends meet. He was a resident of Mohalla Chadhar Colony in Ghakhar Mandi. His wife had died one year back and he used to work as a waiter at wedding functions. In Wan Bhachhran village, two other men - Muhammad Ameer and Abdul Khaliq - committed suicide due to poverty.
