Plea declined for action against Zardari, others in Swiss cases
18 September, 2013
LAHORE: Justice Kh Imtiaz Ahmad of Lahore High Court declined to hear a petition requesting action in accordance with law against former president Asif Ali Zardari, former army chief Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and former attorney general Justice (retd) Malik Qayyum as per the directions of superior court judgment in Swiss cases.
Judge refused on Tuesday hearing the petition and referred it to chief justice for fixing it before some other bench.
A lawyer Sayed Feroze Shah Gilani filed this petition submitting that Gen (retd) Musharraf had promulgated the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to end corruption cases in Switzerland against former Zardari. He submitted that Musharraf had given protection to Zardari when he was head of PPP and later became president of the country.
He said that Justice (retd) Malik Qayyum as attorney general had also written a letter to the Swiss authorities to close the cases in violation of the Supreme Court orders.
He submitted that Zardari during his tenure in president house never obeyed the judicial orders issued in the NRO implementation case. He said that all three were guilty of not implementing the order.
End.
