Peace body head dies in Hangu blast

HANGU: The head of a pro-government peace committee was killed and two others sustained injuries when an explosive device fixed to his van went off near Babar Mela on Wednesday, official sources said. The sources said that the chief of Darband Peace Committee Hashim Zaman was on his way to Babar Mela from Darband village in his van (AEE-466) when an explosive device fixed to his van exploded at 12:30 p.m. near the district courts on the Grand Trunk Road. Hashim Zaman was killed on the spot while his guard Shah Nawaz and driver Shah Habib sustained critical injuries in the explosion. The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Hangu where their condition was stated to be critical. District Police Officer Abdul Rasheed told reporters that the explosive device was fixed to the vehicle. Bomb Disposal Unit officials reached the spot and collected pieces of evidence. An official said that explosive device weighed about 400 grams. End.
