KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Sunday said that Pakistan will suffer if the judges in the country continue to ‘play politician’.

In a post on Twitter, the PPP chief noted that the Law Reforms Commission constituted under the supervision of chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) with chief justices of all high courts its members had failed to perform its duties.

“Under the Rules, it has to meet 4 times a year. They haven’t met since 2015. While judges continue to play politician & do all jobs but theirs – justice suffers in Pakistan,” he said in his tweet.

Talking to media at the launch ceremony of party membership campaign at Bilawal House Media Cell, the PPP chief criticised the growing incidents of police encounters in the country, adding that the trend was not solution to controlling crime. He also demanded a ban on such encounters in the country.

He said that overall law and security situation in Sindh had improved, adding that former SSP Malir Rao Anwar had right to a transparent investigation.

To another question, Bilawal said that Senate elections will be held on time and Nawaz Sharif will meet defeat. He said the politics of hatred must be end, adding that his party believes in politics of service and wants a peaceful and developed Pakistan.

As part of membership drive, Bilawal invited all progressive Pakistanis, especially the youth and women, to join the ideology working for a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Pakistan.

Elaborating the membership drive, Bilawal Bhutto said that the campaign will be conducted from door to door, through camps and also by employing modern communication technology of internet and cell phones. A website, ww.pppmember.com, and an SMS service will also offer membership options to reach out to the Pakistanis, whose massive majority was against extremism and politics of hatred.

The PPP chairman said that the membership drive had been designed to reduce gap between him and the workers, adding that following the successful completion of the drive he would be able to communicate directly with the workers and the members through the modern communication means.

Bilawal said that PPP launched Benazir Income Support Programme during its government in the Centre and now the Sindh government had started anti-poverty programme at the union council level. He said interest-free loans were being provided to the poor in rural areas, especially the women, which will help pull around 600,000 families out of poverty in various districts of the province.

The PPP chief said passage of 18th amendment, devolution of powers to the provinces and reconstitution of NFC Award were some of the major achievements of his party’s government which had helped in discouraging extremism and promoting democracy and democratic values in the country.

Bilawal said that under the philosophy of service-oriented politics, state-of-the-art health facilities including free heart treatment at four satellite hospitals of NICVD in Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad Larkan and Sehwan Sharif had been introduced.

He called upon the people of Pakistan, especially the youth, to join the service-oriented positive politics across country and reject politics of negativity and insults being promoted by the parties fighting for a particular area of GT Road.
