RAWALPINDI: Responding to the Indian army chief's statement on Monday regarding alleged ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), a Pakistan Army spokesman said that it was contrary to the facts on ground.

Pakistan Army respects the ceasefire agreement in letter and spirit, he said in a statement.

He said that after the meeting between the Directors General Military Operations (DGMOs) on December 24, 2013, the situation along LOC has improved considerably.

Such accusations and provocative statements are regrettable and counterproductive, the spokesman added.

In a warning to Pakistan, Indian army chief Gen Bikram Singh said on Monday India would pay Pakistan back in the same coin if Pakistan breaks any rules. "If rules are followed by our neighbours, we follow them too. If rules are broken, we would not sit on it, we will break them too."

"We will pay Pakistan back in the same coin," added the Indian army chief.

He also noted that the frequency of ceasefire violations have decreased ever since the meeting between DGMOs of both the countries.

"Ceasefire violations have continued. Since the agreement on ceasefire violation there has been a reduction in the ceasefire violations. After that these ceasefire violations have been for infiltration bids," said General Singh."Our forces respect the laws of Geneva Convention. We do act. Our forces retaliate is a professional way," he added.

He also warned of a spillover from Afghanistan in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014 when US troops pull out, saying intelligence inputs allude to this.

End.
