Pakistan proposes peaceful solution of Kashmir issue

NEW DELHI: Pakistan has proposed peaceful solution of Kashmir issue to India, saying it is an important issue between the two countries and we have serious concerns over human rights violations by Indian forces there.
Addressing a press conference after the 1st day of talks at secretary level with India here on Thursday at Pakistani High Commission, Pakistan’s foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said that today talks were positive and constructive, in which important issues of water and Indian involvement in Balochistan were also discussed.
“Pakistan wants good relations with India and wants peaceful South Asia and there is a great responsibility on Pakistan and India to establish peace in South Asia. We want solution of issue on equality basis”, he pointed out and added that we do not want to worsen relations with India on the basis of one issue and Pakistan has taken effective steps against terrorism.
“Pakistan wants fruitful and result-oriented talks with India and both the countries would have to demonstrate best capacities for the prosperity and progress of the region. Pakistan welcomes Indian concerns on terror activities in the region”, Salman Bashir added.
Referring to Mumbai attacks, he regretted that due to these attacks the relations between the two countries worsened and Pakistan is ready to take action against terrorists along with India and added that: “terror is not the issue of Pakistan only but an international issue”.
About the investigations into Mumbai attacks, he said that the evidence India has provided to Pakistan against suspects it believed they were involved in the attacks is not enough but Pakistan has made possible cooperation in this regard.
Referring to Thursday talks, he said that both the countries needed to restore trust and confidence, which we discussed today and India emphasized the issue of terrorism only.
Salman Bashir reiterated that its soil would not be used for terrorist activities against any country, adding, both the countries would have to share intelligence sharing to overcome the menace of terrorism.
Referring to water issue, he said that both the countries should abide by the Indus Water Treaty and expressed serious concerns over activities of Indian intelligence agencies against Pakistan.
He said that the international community has hailed the Pakistan’s role against terrorism and is cooperating with it against the menace of terrorism but we would have to stop allegations against each other to move forward, adding, Pakistan and its people condemn terror activities in India.
He said that the issues about which Pakistan has serious concerns must be discussed and offered assistance to India that Pakistan is ready to help it against terrorism if it desired so and added: “Pakistan is determined to eliminate terrorism from its soil”.
“There has been one Mumbai attack but such Mumbai attacks take place in Pakistan on daily basis”, he said and added that terror has not limits and borders.
To a question regarding action Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, he said that Indian evidence against him is not enough but Pakistan has taken all possible actions against the suspects involved in Mumbai attacks.
Indian Foreign Secretary Naurepama Rao said that during today talks Pakistan raised the issue of Indian involvement in Balochistan and water issue.
She also regretted that the Mumbai attacks caused disruption in relations between the two countries and reiterated that Pakistan should take action against Mumbai attacks perpetrators.
She said that Pakistan has also extended to her invitation to visit Pakistan.
