Pakistan, Bahrain to enhance trade, economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD, June 29 (Online): Yousif Saleh Al Saleh, First Deputy to the Head of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Member of Consultative Council (Shura) called Tuesday on Additional Secretary Commerce, Asif Shah to discuss ways and means of trade and economic co-operation between the two countries.
Mr. Tariq Sadiq, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry also attended the meeting.
The Bahrain delegation appreciated the economic reforms undertaken by the Government of Pakistan during the last five years. They underlined that the economic relations between the two countries could be maximized by proactive approach and encouraging people to people contact. The Bahrain side also suggested that a joint forum for the business communities of two countries should be set up and exchange of delegations should take place more frequently. They invited Pakistan to benefit from mega projects of Petrochemical Industry, IT sector, Banking sector, Livestock and Dairy Farming expertise of Bahrain. They were of the view that Pakistan was not well marketed in Bahrain and there was a need to work for improving the image of Pakistan in Bahrain.
Mr. Tariq Sadiq of Islamabad Chamber suggested signing an MoU between Islamabad Chamber and Bahrain Chamber so that a formal relationship might be established between the two chambers, and the Bahrain side welcomed the proposal. Additional Secretary Commerce solicited the support of Bahrain Chamber for Pakistan's FTA with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) since Pakistan was interested in a Free Trade Agreement with the GCC. Mr. Asif Shah said that Pakistan had world class banking professionals and volunteers to offer their services to countries and regimes like Bahrain. Mr. Shah said that a business delegation would soon visit Bahrain to explore the scope for joint ventures and business opportunities in Bahrain. End.
