ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India Monday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) running of Samjhota Express between the Lahore and the New Dehli for a period of more three years.
Advisor Indian Railway Traffic S. R Thakur inked the MoU from the Indian side while Additional General Manager Pakistan Railway S. Gul Raiz Hashmi from the Pakistani side.
Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan Manpreet Dher was present on the occasion.
Giving details of the MoU to media men, the Federal Minister said two more bogies would be attached with Samjhota and Thar Express. Person carrying luggage more than 35 to 50 kilogram weight would be fined 10 percent, he added.
He said the agreement, which was earlier for the period from January 2004 to 2007, has been extended for the period of more three years. The agreement would improve people to people contact living in both countries, the Minister observed.
Federal Railway Minister told media men that relatives of those who burnt to death in Samjhota express carnage can conduct DNA test in Pakistan. Pakistan would setup another Railway station at Khokhra Par Monabao Railway Track while amount in this respect has been allocated, the Minister maintained.
He demanded India to share the investigation of Samjhota express carnage with Pakistan, whereas Pakistan Foreign Ministry is in contact with Indian Foreign Ministry in this regard.
Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan told media men on the occasion that India is providing latest information of Samjhota express carnage time by time to Pakistan but complete investigation would take time.
