PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) here Thursday set up a protest camp against what it said inhuman treatment meted out to a Pakistani national, Dr Afia Saddiqi, in the custody of Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan.

Dozens of PTI activists at the protest camp demanded of the government to make all-out efforts for securing an immediate release of Dr Afia. “She is in a critical condition due to inhuman physical and mental torture by FBI agents,” PTI Peshawar district president Hamid-ul-Haq said while talking to media.

“Release Dr Afia from the detention of Americans,” read a placard displayed in front of the protest camp. Haq further said Dr Afia and her three children — two sons and a daughter — were picked up by Pakistani spying agencies from Karachi on April 30, 2003. Quoting a report of a British woman journalist who had met Dr Afia at Bagram Airbase, he said Afia had been mentally tortured due to which she had lost her mental balance.

End.
