PTI approaches ECP for Nawaz' disqualification

ISLAMABAD: Two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly, Ali Muhammad Khan and Murad Saeed, on Wednesday filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The duo challenged the legitimacy of the prime minister as a member of the National Assembly. While talking to the media outside the ECP office Ali Muhammad Khan said the prime minister does not fulfill the requirements set forth in articles 62 and 63 of the constitution. He stated that Nawaz was not eligible to contest the general elections as it is suspected that he has not provided the ECP with correct information in his nomination papers.
Khan said the PM Nawaz was involved in the Asghar Khan case and claimed that he took money from agencies in 1990 for elections. Meanwhile, Murad Saeed added that the prime minister had struck a deal with former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to be allowed to flee abroad after the military coup in 1999.
"We require a copy of Mian Nawaz Sharif's nomination papers to move for his disqualification through the proper channel," he said. According to the petition of the PTI Nawaz Sharif was convicted under civil and criminal liability, and he concealed this, according to the book Upset 2008 written by Mehmud Sham.
Saeed said that in the Asghar Khan case, the prime minister had taken political bribes for elections – "a fact he concealed in his nomination papers". He also referred to the prime minister's involvement in the Mehran Bank scandal which, he said, directly disqualifies him under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.
Citing reports in two Urdu dailies dated June 5, 2013 the PTI MNA said NAB had declared Nawaz Sharif a defaulter and criminally liable and had submitted its reservations to the Election Commission of Pakistan. He said they wish to exercise their right to know the information in the nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif.
