NAUDERO: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) strengthened democracy in the country during its five year tenure and turned a weak democratic structure into a stronger system.

Addressing the party gathering in Naudero on the occasion of PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's death anniversary on Thursday, Asif Ali Zardari said that it was for the first time that democratic process had completed its 5-year tenure.

"Continuous progress of democracy will strengthen the democratic system in the country," he said adding that the PPP government had put the nation on the right path.

He reminded the people that he had given his all powers to the parliament, making the institution supreme.

"Supremacy of the parliament is the supremacy of the people of Pakistan," he said adding that the PPP had given all powers to the people of the country.

There was no political prisoner in our tenure and the only political prisoner who was in jail was Hamid Saeed Kazmi and he was sent to jail by the judiciary, he added.

He further said that the PPP government had done things which would prove fruitful for the next generations.

End.
