PML-Functional unveils election manifesto

KARACHI: Pir Pagaro led Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) has released its election manifesto on Tuesday, promising that it will eliminate illegal jirga system and forced conversion of Hindu girls in Sindh.
Former Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and head of the party's manifesto committee, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah revealed the Elections 2013 Manifesto at a press conference held at the Functional House. Party's Secretary General, Imtiaz Shaikh, central leaders, Muhammad Ali Durrani, Jam Madad Ali and others were also present on the occasion.
"The party is now benefiting from the progressive and visionary patronage of Pir Pagaro, Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi", stated the party in the manifesto document.
It is pertinent to mention here, that Pir Pagaro is the spiritual leader of Hur Jamaat, with thousands of followers in Sindh, Punjab and India.
The election manifesto stated that the party will eliminate violence against women and girls through creation of strict laws and implementation of existing ones. After coming in power, the party promises to increase the number of Women Courts and Women's Police Stations, while developing legislation to ensure timely provision of justice to women.
The party will set up provincial councils for the protection of minority rights and property, and make sure to protect their worship places. It stated that a new system of Homeland Security will be introduced, by establishing a Special Force to solve law and order situation at the national level.
The party vowed to eradicate all no-go areas in Karachi, eliminate restrictions on admissions of students from interior Sindh in Karachi's educational institutions, and that it will give national status to Sindhi and other regional languages of the country. The PML-F also supported creation of Bahawalpur Province.
The party has also promised to introduce Mono Rail in Karachi similar to the model followed in Dubai, and revive Circular Railway with bullet trains. It will set up a new traffic police system similar to the Motorway Police in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Sukkur. The party rejects the planned Island City on two islands off the coast of Karachi, and vowed to cancel the contract after coming in power. It also vowed to provide constitutional protection to jobs and other quotas for poverty-stricken areas of the country.
The party will also increase education and health budgets from up to six percent each, and introduce uniform admission policy in all educational institutions of the province. It will ensure admissions in all medical colleges on merit and abolish Self Finance Schemes to ensure maximum number of seats for deserving students.
The party announced that it will eliminate permissions on existing water courses from main canals, and close the water courses. It opposed construction of Kalabagh Dam and supported Bhasha Dam. The party shows concern over Free Trade Agreement with India, and vowed to take steps for ensuring rights of Pakistani Farmers by providing a level playing field.
It will increase tax net from one million to three million taxpayers without increasing tax rate tariff. The party will ensure approval of the government borrowings by assemblies. It will ensure more reliance on coal and other alternative resources for electricity generation, and develop at least two mega power projects on coal. The PML-F will enable the judiciary to monitor and oversee all acts of the governance, and will reduce perks and privileges of ministers, MNAs, MPAs and civil and military bureaucracy.
Muzaffar Shah said that the party has received over 400 applications for awarding the party tickets in the forthcoming general elections. It proves the party's popularity, he added. He criticized allowing official protocol to Speakers of the Assemblies, saying that they can influence in elections, as their relatives will also be candidates. He also demanded to induct neutral people in the caretaker cabinets.
