LAHORE: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)`s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has ordered Pakistan Football Referees Assocoation (PFRA) and PFF Technical Branch to provide justifiable Pakistani football referees for FIFA List 2007 following Physical and Written Test at Punjab Stadium, Lahore.

All FIFA, National (Grade I and II) referees of Pakistan attended the Test.

PFRA`s President Qazi Muhammad Asif and Secretary General Chaudhry Abdul Rasheed short listed the candidates and provided the names of 13 Referees to PFF who are on the verge of becoming FIFA Referees in 2007. "FIFA and AFC is giving full support to PFF and we should provide gleaming referees to them. The work of these officials would be constantly monitored and it was mandatory that each one of them performed at high level consistently," said Faisal adding that the new fitness test is designed in such a way that the physical fitness and mental toughness of the referees is thoroughly tested. The quality of the game also played a major role in the development of refereeing. No referee in the world can claim to be the best in the world.

One can be a good referee when he makes the least number of mistakes."

Current FIFA List 2006 is comprised of eight Pakistanis Jehangir Khan (Balochistan),  Imtiaz Ali Shah, Hidayat Ullah, Saleem Khan (NWFP),  Asif Kiani, Khalid Khan, Rana Naseer Ahmad (Punjab), Muhammad Iqbal (Sindh), and of these eight, Khalid and Saleem are out of contention while Nisar Ahmed, Akbar Dost (Balochistan), Rauf Bari, Waheed Murad (Punjab), Muhammad Ali (NWFP), Chaman Khan ( Islamabad) and Shafaat Habib ( Army) are others in the 13-Referees list, and on the doorstep of becoming FIFA Referees.

Faisal, who is also member of AFC Disciplinary Committee and Federal Minister for Environment added :  " Referees are used to be like a team in an event. During my visit to Dhaka for AFC Challenge Football Cup last April, the twenty referees who were in action at Bangladesh were called the 17th team and they were among the best match officials in Asia. All of them cleared the newly-introduced Referee Fitness test and they were in good physical condition. They were put through a rigorous fitness test, and no untoward incident took place in 16-day soccer fiesta."

End.
