Karachi: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement's protest against the changes to the local government law continued on Sunday with a massive sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club.

Calling the local government amendment ordinance a "black law", MQM leaders Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi, Dr Saghir Ahmed, Faisal Sabzwari, Khawaja Izharul Hasan, Heer Ismail Soho and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's Abdul Razzaq Rahemo asked the apex court to declare it void as it usurped the rights of citizens.

MQM leader Khalid Maqbool said, "We have gathered here to reject the new LG law, not democracy." He added, "Some people want MQM to boycott the LG elections. But if it happens, nobody would be able to contest."

The MQM leaders maintained that the LG amendment ordinance violated the Constitution and any polls held under its provisions would be illegitimate.Reiterating that the main aim of the new law was to empower the Pakistan People's Party to crush its opponents, the leaders warned the ruling provincial party that they would continue protesting until its withdrawal.

End.
