ISLAMABAD: Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has declared the recent murderous attack on Hamid Mir a tragedy, not only for Hamid Mir's channel and family, but also for journalists' fraternity and entire Nation.

In his recent statement, he has however taken strongest exceptions to the way the issue of murder attempt on Hamid Mir had been used as a spring board to malign National institutions without any conducive evidence in the show.

He pointed out that there was no justification for allegations when the Government has already set up a Commission consisting of three Supreme Court senior Judges.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence has lodged a complaint with Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against Geo News.

According to a statement released here, the ministry has also provided the authority with oodles of the relevant evidence that suggests the media group is involved in smearing the image of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). "The news channel has breached the code of conduct by accusing Director General (DG) of ISI Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam of masterminding the attempt on senior journalist Hamid Mir", the statement said.

It further said that action would be taken against the channel's editorial and management team. "All those who are involved in the mala fide broadcast, riddled with baseless allegations, will be taken to the task", the statement made clear.

Geo News can go off air if it fails to prove the accusations it leveled against the ISI, analysts say.

End.
